Mingle Media TV was excited to cover the 2nd Annual Thirst Project Gala held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills hosted by Chyler Leigh JR Bourne on June 28, 2011. The evening honored Michael Welch, “Twilight” as the recipient of The Pioneering Spirit Award for his extraordinary efforts to raise the profile of the global water crisis and helping provide clean, safe drinking water to thousands of people. Gala was also sponsored by the Follett Higher Education Group. The Thirst Project is founded by CEO President Seth Maxwell. Over 1.1 Billion people do not have access to safe, clean drinking water and proper sanitization. The Thirst Project is a nonprofit organization raising awareness of and bringing solutions to the clean water crisis through Education Outreach Programs, that educate, equip and empower communities in need of water by drilling wells. MaximsNewsPEOPLE: 14 March 2011 — UNICEF: UN Childrens Fund: North West, Pakistan – The sea of white tents amidst this scenic landscape is hard to miss and the most visible scar on a wounded, war ravaged valley; this is the Nahqi camp in North West Pakistan’s conflict-hit Mohmand Agency home to more than 3000 families displaced by the violence in the tribal region. The fierce fighting between the army and militants intensified over the last few weeks, forcing children like Anwar to flee for their lives and seek shelter here. UNICEF has been working to alleviate the pain and suffering of the displaced by providing them with basic necessities like clean drinking water, food and sanitation facilities. Given the vulnerable situation, UNICEF has set up health centres where children are being vaccinated against polio and other diseases. Anwar’s father has been missing and their mother stayed back home to guard their belongings. For these people, the ordeal doesn’t seem to end with their journey to safety. Mandajo Jan is here with her orphaned grandchildren. She says keeping the children warm in sub-zero temperatures is a battle in itself. Arshed is getting his first polio drops. His mother explains that vaccination teams were unable to visit their hometown for the past two years due to the escalating violence.
